Early Music
Early Music
Each video module begins with a performance of a work by one of history's major composers. Within each video, there is an expanded profile on the composer and their life and major works. Further towards the bottom, we provide a "More" section which includes numerous other examples of performances of that composers' other works - we encourage you to discover a new favourite composer and dive into as much music as your curiosity invites you to!
From the beginning, we follow the roots of Western Classical Music from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras of history - Highlighting the lineage of the art form and system we practice today known as "Western Classical Choral Singing". While MANY forms of art were being developed all over the world, most of this course strives to root itself in choral music as the "Main Character" for this journey, though sometimes we need to expand on important historical events, figures, or art forms that greatly impacted the development of the art or artists performing this music.
As the course gets further into the Modern Era, we aim to expand and expose your choral repertoire by showing music from all over the world, and the cultures they are being heard in.
This course is also meant to be an archive of some of the world's greatest performances of music from every time period. After decades of performances and recordings being shared around the world via the internet, we are aiming to expose you to some of the world's leading voices and boldest artists of today.
I try, whenever possible, to include the stories of underrepresented, suppressed, and oppressed voices throughout history, and to help continue to development of the modern art into a more inclusive global art form. In the future, my goal is to seek out knowledge keepers for the sections of global music history that they offer more expertise in. I am excited to expand these relationships and offerings in the coming years
