Cantare Tour 2024 “On The Edge”
Harbour VOICES Festival, Newfoundland and Labrador

Summer 2024

We are SO EXCITED to announce that Cantare Children’s Choir IS GOING ON TOUR AGAIN!

Our first time on the road since our 2019 tour to New Orleans, Cantare will be taking a touring party of 30 (including choristers, chaperones, and staff) to St Johns, Newfoundland for the first-ever Harbour VOICES Festival! This festival tour will give our choristers an amazing opportunity to see singing groups of all kinds from across the country to all over the globe! Cantare will have an opportunity to present their own set on festival concert programs, and our choristers will be able to attend so many concerts, workshops, and sharing sessions with so many amazing artists!

This will be our second tour to Newfoundland and Labrador, we are so excited to see our Eastern Canadian “Home-Away-From-Home” again!

About the Harbour VOICES Festival

HarbourVOICES! Festival focuses on celebrating diversity and inclusion through the sharing and experiencing of our global wealth of musical traditions and cultures. At the same time, it will highlight the musical culture and singing traditions of beautiful Newfoundland and Labrador.

The festival was named festival HarbourVOICE to reflect ‘harbours’ as places of safety, shelter, or refuge for people, ships and boats, as well as being places of rest and replenishment – physically and spiritually.

The Festival is imagined and created as a ‘harbour’ where individual and collective people’s voices are welcomed, protected, and amplified.

We hope to celebrate together the many and diverse traditions and powers of the human voice as shared through singing and song.

Our History:

St. John’s
Summer

Tour 2011

Cantare Children’s Choir is all too familiar with St. John’s Newfoundland after our 2011 tour to the city to attend “Festival 500”. Cantare had multiple opportunities to work 1-on-1 with resident conductor, and favourite composer of the choir, Bob Chilcott and Resident Artist RAJATON. We heard SO MANY amazing concerts across the entire festival and learned so much about the current state of choral singing from friends from all over.

Our Treble singers had the opportunity to sing as part of the Treble Mass Choir. Our Tenors and Basses got to sing with the adult massed choir. The two groups together were such a large force they required an ARENA to accommodate the size of the ensemble and still put an audience in the building. It was such a memorable trip full of so many joyous experiences.

Our staff have visited St John’s to attend Choral Canada’s Biannual PODIUM conference in 2018

We can’t wait to call Newfoundland our musical home once more!
